The Surface Urban Energy and Water Balance Scheme (SUEWS): Evaluation in Los Angeles and Vancouver.Parameter source

Where: Table 2, model parameter values by surface type, p. 223

Publishes gi,max 40 mm s-1 in the Irrigated grass column. Unlike explicitly site-specific soil-store initial states in the same table, the conductance row carries no Vancouver or Los Angeles label.

The Surface Urban Energy and Water Balance Scheme (SUEWS): Evaluation in Los Angeles and Vancouver.Validation

Where: Sect. 3.1, Measurements, p. 225

Identifies Vancouver and Los Angeles as locations used to test SUEWS; it does not state that the irrigated-grass maximum was measured or fitted in Vancouver.

Assessment findings

Namesupported
Järvi Table 2 labels the parameter column Irrigated grass.
Targetsupported
The table publishes maximum vegetation conductance for the SUEWS irrigated-grass surface.
Valuessupported
Järvi et al. (2011) Table 2 publishes gi,max 40 mm s-1 for irrigated grass, exactly matching the stored value.
Sourcesupported
Järvi et al. directly publish the exact parameter. The table gives 40 no upstream source footnote, so no earlier source is attributed here.
issue #315
Placesupported
Table 2 presents 40 as a general surface-type parameter. It explicitly labels the initial soil-store states when they differ between Vancouver and Los Angeles, but attaches no site label to irrigated-grass conductance. Vancouver is a model evaluation location, not evidence that 40 was measured or fitted there; generic is the supported database scope.
Representativenesssupported
The publication presents the value as a model input by surface type without a site-specific derivation, supporting generic rather than city representativeness.
Methodsupported
The database record transcribes a parameter directly from the published model table.
Identitysupported
The stable path and origin retain Vancouver migration context while the canonical place and representativeness correctly state the evidence scope as generic. Repository policy treats record paths as stable identities, and the related unirrigated record represents a distinct published value.

Scientific note

The place defect is settled without changing the value or stable path. Järvi et al. publish 40 as an irrigated-grass surface parameter and distinguish site-specific inputs elsewhere in the same table. The record is therefore generic evidence whose Vancouver path and origin are retained only as migration identity. Stable record paths are not renamed to mirror corrected metadata, and the distinct unirrigated-grass value remains a separate record. The absence of an upstream footnote is recorded without inventing one.
