The Surface Urban Energy and Water Balance Scheme (SUEWS): Evaluation in Los Angeles and Vancouver.Parameter source

Applies to: parameters.storage_drain_params.drain_coef_1, parameters.storage_drain_params.drain_coef_2, parameters.wet_threshold

Where: Table 2(a), model parameter values by surface type, p. 223

Publishes Si 1.9 mm, D0,i 10 and b 0.013 in the Irrigated grass column. The same table explicitly labels site-specific initial states elsewhere, while these surface parameters carry no city label.

The Surface Urban Energy and Water Balance Scheme (SUEWS): Evaluation in Los Angeles and Vancouver.Validation

Where: Section 2.5, Equation 19, p. 224-225

States that paved surfaces, roofs and irrigated vegetation use the power-law drainage equation Di = D0,i(Ci,t-1)^b. It establishes the scientific form but does not print the SUEWS interface selector.

SUEWS Documentation, Release v2020aParameter source

Applies to: parameters.storage_drain_params.drain_eq

Where: DrainageCoef1 configuration, SUEWS_Veg.txt example values, p. 62

Explicitly pairs DrainageEq 3 and DrainageCoef1 10 with Grass (irrigated). This evidence is scoped only to drain_eq; the exact physical coefficients remain sourced to Järvi et al. (2011).

Development of the Surface Urban Energy and Water Balance Scheme (SUEWS) for cold climate citiesLater compilation

Where: Table 4(a), parameters used in SUEWS by surface, p. 1701

The later compilation repeats irrigated-vegetation D0,i 10 and b 0.013 but leaves Si blank. Its caption points unfootnoted parameters back to Järvi et al. (2011).

Assessment findings

Namesupported
Järvi et al. label the source surface Irrigated grass.
Targetsupported
The table and drainage equation publish storage and drainage parameters for the irrigated-grass SUEWS surface, matching land_cover.grass.
Valuessupported
Table 2(a) gives irrigated grass Si 1.9 mm, D0,i 10 and b 0.013, while Section 2.5 assigns irrigated vegetation to Eq. 19's power-law form. The official v2020a documentation separately pairs DrainageEq 3 with irrigated grass. Every stored value is therefore covered without treating a paper equation number as an interface selector.
issue #1087
Sourcesupported
Järvi et al. (2011) directly publish the three physical parameters and drainage form. The source-only parameter override attributes the interface selector to the official v2020a documentation. Järvi et al. (2014) is retained only as compilation evidence; its Table 4(a) repeats D0,i and b but leaves the irrigated-vegetation Si cell blank, which does not supersede the original table.
issue #1087
Placesupported
The original table presents a surface-type parameter rather than a Helsinki determination. Generic is therefore the supported evidence place; origin Helsinki preserves migration lineage.
Representativenesssupported
The publication presents the tuple by surface type without a site-specific derivation, supporting generic rather than city representativeness.
Methodsupported
Literature accurately describes direct transcription of the published physical parameters, equation form and documented interface selector.
Identitysupported
The original table distinguishes irrigated grass from grass and publishes different drainage forms and coefficients for them. The stable Helsinki path and origin retain migration identity.

Scientific note

The previous unresolved finding came from treating a blank in the later Järvi et al. (2014) compilation as missing original evidence. Järvi et al. (2011) publishes the three physical parameters and equation directly; official SUEWS documentation establishes the separate selector mapping. The source and scope metadata are corrected without changing any parameter, target, stable path, origin or legacy ID.
