This entry preserves a routing choice from the original database. Its region name identifies where the fallback is offered; it does not claim that the selected components provide independent evidence for that region. Review each component's provenance and the composition assessment before reuse.
This exact assembly is shared by 12 regional routes: Central Africa, Central South America, Eastern Africa, Middle East, North America, Northern Africa, Northern South America, Southern Africa, Southern South America, West Africa, Western South America, and this page.

| Composite identity | supported The composite's name field reads Central America, its region field reads Central America, and both agree with the entry path archetypes/regions/central-america. The label names the region the default is offered for rather than the provenance of the rows it assembles; where those rows come from is assessed under place. |
|---|---|
| Composite target | correction required The composite's own target, site, is correct for a default that a country archetype inherits through region_ref, and fifteen of the seventeen slot positions take a component declared for them. That includes the two least obvious: the soil slot takes records/surfaces/common/se-england--ward2016--soil, whose target land_cover.common is the surface-agnostic target docs/FORMAT.md names for soils, and the profiles.snow_clearing slot takes records/profiles/snow-removal/helsinki--jarvi2014--snow-removed-daytime, which declares attaches_to snow.snow_profile_24hr. The remaining two do not. The profiles.water_use_manual slot fills irrigation.wuprofm_24hr, but its holiday position takes records/profiles/water-use-automatic/los-angeles--lindberg2013--old-code-12, which declares attaches_to irrigation.wuprofa_24hr; the profiles.water_use_automatic slot fills irrigation.wuprofa_24hr, but its working_day position takes records/profiles/water-use-manual/los-angeles--loridan2011--old-code-11, which declares attaches_to irrigation.wuprofm_24hr. Each of the two irrigation profiles is therefore half composed of the other kind. No correctly declared record can close either gap: every record under records/profiles/water-use-manual carries a working_day block only, and the single record under records/profiles/water-use-automatic carries a holiday block only, which is why the same crossing appears in all twenty-two region defaults and should be settled once rather than region by region. |
| Own parameter values | curation required The composite declares parameters of its own: anthropogenic_emissions.heat.baset_heating and anthropogenic_emissions.heat.baset_cooling, each 7 for working_day and for holiday. schema/table_mapping.yml maps those from the legacy Region table's TCritic_Heating_WD and WE and TCritic_Cooling_WD and WE columns, so they are migrated rather than invented, but three things about them are unsettled. They carry no source of their own. They are identical in all twenty-two region defaults, so a value living in a region default conveys nothing region-specific. And docs/FORMAT.md requires a value a composite introduces to be represented and evidence-reviewed as a record first, which these are not, even though the same document allows a migrated composite row to carry its own scalars under the same rules as a record. The file's legacy block also retains BaseT_HC: 18.2, which schema/table_mapping.yml flags needs-review because BaseT_HC and TCritic_* serve different QF formulations. A maintainer has to decide whether the region layer should assert a heating and a cooling base temperature at all, and on what basis. |
| Composition rationale | not applicable The composite declares no source field and the repository records no published rationale for this regional default. schema/regional_axis.yml describes the region axis as a way of viewing the database and leaves open whether the grouping is climatic, cultural or merely geographic; that is a design note about the axis, not a rationale for this selection, and nothing in the repository explains why these particular rows were chosen. The components' own sources belong to their evidence assessments, not to this review. |
| Place applicability | curation required db/places.yml resolves each component's place, and a place chains to a region through its country's region_ref in db/archetypes/countries. On that chain none of the fifteen components belongs to Central America: london, swindon, se-england and helsinki chain to archetypes/regions/northern-europe; vancouver and los-angeles chain to archetypes/regions/north-america; and generic carries no country field at all. Nine of the fifteen components resolve to the single country united-kingdom, and the koppen classes db/places.yml records are Cfb for london, swindon, se-england and vancouver, Dfb for helsinki and Csa for los-angeles. Nor is there an alternative to reach for: no entry in the database whose place chains to Central America carries a land-cover, anthropogenic, irrigation, conductance, snow or soil value, the only entries on that chain being seven profile.human-activity and seven profile.traffic records, which the country layer uses and this composite does not. Whether rows from these places may stand as the Central America default is a decision a maintainer has to take and record. |
| Representativeness | curation required The composite is the default for a whole region, but thirteen of its fifteen components are classed city and none is classed regional except records/surfaces/common/se-england--ward2016--soil, which reads regional. The remaining one, records/conductance/generic--ward2016, reads generic with place generic and the name Ward et al. (2016) generic surface conductance parameterisation (gsModel=2). docs/FORMAT.md defines representativeness as how far a value travels, site through city, regional and generic, precisely so that a rooftop measurement and a value offered as typical of a region are no longer indistinguishable. A city row placed in a region default travels further than its own declaration allows, and it does so here for every land-cover surface, for the anthropogenic, irrigation and snow slots and for all three profile positions. Whether that is acceptable as a stated fallback, or whether these entries should be reclassified or replaced, is a maintainer decision. |
| Slot and season mapping | supported The composite selects existing entries and maps them into slots; it computes nothing and derives no value from its components. The scalars it asserts in its own parameters block are assessed under values rather than treated as a production method, because docs/FORMAT.md allows a migrated composite row to carry its own scalars. |
| Completeness and uniqueness | curation required The composite fills all seven land_cover surfaces together with the anthropogenic_emissions, irrigation, soil, snow and conductance slots and three profile positions. The traffic, energy_use, human_activity and population profile slots are filled at the country layer, where seven country archetypes carry region_ref: archetypes/regions/central-america; nothing outside db/archetypes/countries references this entry. On that split the assembly is complete. It is not unique. Its uses, parameters and legacy blocks are identical to those of eleven other region defaults, so the twenty-two-entry region vocabulary carries only seven distinct compositions. scripts/check_db.py reports duplicate value sets only for paths beginning records/, so this duplication is invisible to make check. A maintainer has to decide whether these entries should be differentiated or documented as deliberately identical. |
The Central America default draws six of its seven land-cover surfaces from London, the seventh from Swindon, its soil from SE England and its anthropogenic set from London, putting nine of the fifteen components in one country, united-kingdom; the snow set and its clearing profile come from Helsinki, the irrigation set from Vancouver and both water-use profiles from Los Angeles. Following each component's place through its country's region_ref, not one chains to Central America, and the database holds no land-cover, anthropogenic, irrigation, conductance, snow or soil entry that does; the only Central America-chaining entries are seven traffic and seven human-activity profiles the country layer uses. Worth noting that the Los Angeles water-use profiles and the Vancouver irrigation set sit one region away, in North America, rather than in the region itself. Thirteen of the fifteen components declare representativeness city, so each travels further here than its own declaration allows. Two defects need no judgement about the region: the profiles.water_use_manual slot takes its holiday half from a record declared attaches_to irrigation.wuprofa_24hr and the profiles.water_use_automatic slot takes its working_day half from a record declared attaches_to irrigation.wuprofm_24hr, and no record in the database can close either gap. The composite also asserts baset_heating and baset_cooling of 7 with no source, identical in all twenty-two region defaults, and it is one of twelve region defaults whose uses, parameters and legacy blocks are identical, a duplication make check cannot see because scripts/check_db.py compares value sets only under records/. Beyond this entry, all twenty-two region defaults take archetypes/snow/helsinki--snow while archetypes/snow/suews--no-snow exists with target snow and is referenced by none of them, though it carries no melt parameters and its legacy block holds -999 throughout. The components' own values remain subject to their evidence assessments; this review does not revisit them.
