Fills the OHM positions summer_wet and summer_dry. The record declares target ohm_coefficients, source ward2016, no place and no representativeness, and is named "Code 201 x Mulitplier for summer [2011]". It declares season_label Summer, which is the season it is mapped into.
Fills the OHM positions winter_wet and winter_dry. The record declares target ohm_coefficients, source ward2016, no place and no representativeness, and is named "Code 201 x Multiplier for winter [2012]". It declares season_label Winter, which is the season it is mapped into.
Fills biogen_co2. The record declares target land_cover.common and uses mixed leaf-level provenance. Ruimy supplies the generic light-response pair, Schmid supplies the site-scoped Morgan-Monroe respiration pair, and Järvi supplies the site-scoped Finnish minimum-respiration floor. It is named "Plant canopies"; docs/FORMAT.md defines land_cover.common as the surface-agnostic target, so it is structurally admissible in a deciduous-tree composite, while the cross-site selection remains a composition-level curation question.
Fills vegetation_growth. The record declares target land_cover.dectr, place helsinki and representativeness city. It carries source jarvi2014 and supplies base_temperature, base_temperature_senescence, gdd_full and sdd_full, which schema/parameter_groups.yml classes as one tightly linked set.
Fills snow_lim_patch. The stable path and origin retain Helsinki migration lineage, while the record declares target land_cover.dectr, place generic, representativeness generic, applicable_scale land_cover, source jarvi2014 and method literature. It supplies the published 190 mm land-cover default.
Fills porosity. The record declares target land_cover.dectr, place generic, representativeness generic, applicable_scale land_cover, source unreferenced and method assumed. It supplies porosity_min_deciduous and porosity_max_deciduous to all eight deciduous-tree composites.
Fills albedo. The record declares target land_cover.dectr, place se-england, representativeness site, applicable_scale land_cover, source ward2016 and method fitted. Its alb_max leaf overrides those defaults with source jarvi2011, method literature, place generic and representativeness generic.
Fills drainage. The stable record path retains its SE England/Ward 2016 migration lineage, but the record declares target land_cover.dectr, place swindon and representativeness site. It carries source ward2018, method literature and storage_drain_params.drain_eq 2.
Fills leaf_area_index. The record declares target land_cover.dectr, place se-england and representativeness regional. It is named "Deciduous Tree (SE England)", carries source jarvi2011, declares method literature and has lai.lai_type 1.
Fills leaf_growth_power. The record declares target land_cover.dectr, place se-england, representativeness site, source jarvi2014 and method fitted. Official SUEWS documentation supplies the lai.lai_type 1 selector, matching the leaf_area_index component.
Fills max_vegetation_conductance. The record declares target land_cover.dectr, place se-england and representativeness regional. It is named "Deciduous Tree (SE England)", carries source breuer2003 and declares method literature.
Fills water_storage. The stable record path retains its SE England/Ward 2016 migration lineage, but the record declares target land_cover.dectr, place swindon and representativeness site. It carries source ward2018 and is the store_min and store_max entry of every deciduous-tree composite.
Fills emissivity. The record declares target land_cover.dectr, place generic and representativeness generic. It is named "Deciduous trees", carries source oke1987 and declares method literature; its stable path retains the Swindon migration lineage.
| Composite identity | supported The composite is named "Deciduous Tree Ward et al. (2016)" and three of its thirteen components declare source ward2016, registered in db/sources.yml as Ward, H. C.; Kotthaus, S.; Järvi, L.; Grimmond, C. S. B., 2016, "Surface Urban Energy and Water Balance Scheme (SUEWS): Development and evaluation at two UK sites", Urban Climate. The label names the study rather than the city, and the origin field, "London, UK", is what distinguishes this entry; the identically named Swindon composite is taken up under identity. |
|---|---|
| Composite target | supported The composite's own target is land_cover.dectr. Ten of its thirteen components declare target land_cover.dectr; the biogenic CO2 component declares land_cover.common, which docs/FORMAT.md defines as the target for surface-agnostic sets; and the two OHM records declare ohm_coefficients, the type that slot carries. The leaf_area_index and leaf_growth_power components both declare lai.lai_type 1, so the pair belongs to one LAI equation, which is the coupling schema/parameter_groups.yml makes a rule for that slot pair. |
| Own parameter values | not applicable The composite declares no parameter overrides of its own. |
| Composition rationale | not applicable The composite claims no composition source, and the repository records no published rationale for this typology. The components' own sources belong to their evidence assessments, not to this review. |
| Place applicability | curation required The composite claims place london, registered in db/places.yml with Köppen class Cfb, but no component carries that place. Four carry place se-england, which db/places.yml marks subnational and which contains London, so those sit comfortably; emissivity and porosity are generic and likewise do not overreach. Three whole-record slots do not follow; drainage and water_storage use site-scoped Swindon records, while the vegetation_growth slot takes records/surfaces/dectr/helsinki--jarvi2014--phenology (base_temperature 5, base_temperature_senescence 10) although records/surfaces/dectr/se-england--ward2016--phenology exists with the composite's own source and region (base_temperature 6, base_temperature_senescence 11) and is referenced by no archetype in the database; schema/parameter_groups.yml classes those thresholds as a tightly linked set whose base temperature was localised for SE England. Water storage and drainage import site evidence from Swindon without a recorded London composition rationale. The snow_lim_patch slot takes the generic Järvi land-cover default and creates no Helsinki-to-London transfer. The biogen_co2 slot also contains site-scoped respiration coefficients from Morgan-Monroe State Forest and a site-scoped minimum respiration floor from Finland, although its Ruimy light-response pair is generic. A maintainer should settle these cross-site selections. |
| Representativeness | curation required The composite claims representativeness city. Two components are classed regional (LAI and maximum conductance), while albedo, drainage, LAI-power and water storage are site-scoped; emissivity, porosity and snow limit are generic; the phenology record is city; and the two OHM records declare no class. The biogen_co2 component has mixed scope. Ruimy's alpha_bio_co2 and beta_bio_co2 are generic, but Schmid's resp_a and resp_b and Järvi's min_res_bioco2 are site-scoped. The site-scoped and mixed-scope inputs are narrower than the city composite, and no published composition rationale documents the transplant, so city representativeness needs maintainer adjudication. |
| Slot and season mapping | supported The composite assembles existing records into slots and produces no value of its own, and its season mapping is the one the entries support. summer_wet and summer_dry take records/ohm/generic--ward2016--all-vegetation, which declares season_label Summer; winter_wet and winter_dry take records/ohm/generic--ward2016--all-vegetation--code-201-x-multiplier-for-winter-2012, which declares season_label Winter. This is the only deciduous-tree composite pair that separates the seasons rather than repeating one set four times. Wet and dry take the same record within each season, which is all the entries allow, since no OHM record in the database declares a wet or dry label. |
| Completeness and uniqueness | curation required Thirteen distinct records fill the fifteen slot positions, and every slot the deciduous-tree composites use is filled. Uniqueness is not satisfied: archetypes/surfaces/dectr/swindon-uk--deciduous-tree-ward-et-al-2016 carries the identical name "Deciduous Tree Ward et al. (2016)" and an identical uses block, component for component and slot for slot, so the two differ only in place, origin and legacy_id and export the same fragment. Ward et al. 2016 evaluated two UK sites, so two typologies is a defensible intent, but as stored they are indistinguishable by content and a reader choosing between them has nothing to choose on. A maintainer should either differentiate them or record that one entry serves both sites. scripts/export_record.py also recognises a water_state slot and db/records/surfaces/dectr holds records/surfaces/dectr/se-england--ward2016--water-state, which no deciduous-tree composite references. |
Three of the thirteen components come from Ward et al. 2016, the study the label names, while four components are placed at se-england, which contains London. The albedo is a site-scoped Ward input, LAI-power is a site-scoped Järvi formulation evaluated in the UK, drainage and water storage are site-scoped Swindon inputs, and maximum conductance is a Breuer literature value applied there; the two LAI records agree on lai.lai_type 1; and the OHM mapping is the best in this family, with the summer record in both summer positions and the winter record in both winter positions, each confirmed by its own season_label. The emissivity component carries the generic Oke literature value, so its stable Swindon path does not create a place mismatch or distinguish this composition from its Swindon counterpart. The Swindon water-storage and drainage imports, one Helsinki whole-record slot and one mixed-scope tuple do not follow. The phenology comes from Helsinki when an SE England Ward 2016 phenology record exists, carries the localised base temperatures, and is referenced by no archetype at all. Snowpack limit is the generic Järvi land-cover default. The biogen_co2 tuple combines Ruimy's generic fit with site-scoped Schmid respiration coefficients and a site-scoped Järvi minimum-respiration floor without a published composition rationale. Separately, this composite and the Swindon one are identical in every component and in their name, differing only in place, origin and legacy_id, so nothing in the data tells the two UK sites apart. None of this questions a stored value; all of it is selection and mapping, which is where a composition review can act. The components' values remain subject to their own evidence assessments; this review does not revisit them.
