Carbon sequestration potential of street tree plantings in HelsinkiParameter source

Applies to: parameters.soil_depth, parameters.soil_store_capacity

Where: Sect. 2.1, Site description, p. 2123

Identifies two street-tree study sites in Viikki, Helsinki, and describes their 1 m-deep constructed structural soils.

Where: Table 2, SUEWS street-tree parameters, p. 2127

Gives 1.00 m soil depth and 0.14 m water-storage capacity for both Tilia and Alnus sites; the following paragraph states the unrounded storage capacity as 0.141 m calculated from laboratory measurements.

This is the earliest located direct publication of the distinctive SUEWS depth and storage-capacity pair; Riikonen et al. (2011) supplied the underlying site and laboratory information rather than publishing this complete SUEWS row.

Simulating heat and CO2 fluxes in Beijing using SUEWS V2020b: Sensitivity to vegetation phenology and maximum conductanceLater compilation

Where: ModelRuns/Input/SUEWS_Soil.txt, code 72

Carries 1000, 141, 5.00E-04, 1.16 and 10, and is commented Viikki, Street trees.

Where: ModelRuns/Input/SUEWS_Veg.txt, code 991, 992 and 993, columns SoilTypeCode

All three Beijing vegetated rows point at soil code 72.

Where: ModelRuns/Input/SUEWS_SiteSelect.txt, Beijing grid 1 (2015 and 2016)

Assigns Code_EveTr 991, Code_DecTr 992, Code_Grass 993 and IrrigationCode 5 to the modelled Beijing grid, so those rows are the ones the published runs used.

Data used in manuscript CO2 uptake of urban vegetation in a warming Nordic cityValidation

Where: Zenodo Input_met.zip/Input_met/SUEWS_Soil.txt, code 72

Stores the matching executable tuple 1000, 141, 0.0005, 1.16 and 10 as the Helsinki Viikki street-tree soil.

Where: Zenodo Input_met.zip/Input_met/SUEWS_Veg.txt, codes 832 and 842

Assigns SoilTypeCode 72 to the distinct Helsinki deciduous- and evergreen-street-tree surface rows.

Data used in manuscript CO2 uptake of urban vegetation in a warming Nordic cityParameter source

Applies to: parameters.saturated_hydraulic_conductivity, parameters.soil_density

Where: Zenodo Input_met.zip/Input_met/SUEWS_Soil.txt, code 72

The independently released Helsinki model input states saturated hydraulic conductivity 0.0005 and soil density 1.16 for the Viikki street-tree soil row.

Simulating heat and CO2 fluxes in Beijing using SUEWS V2020b: Sensitivity to vegetation phenology and maximum conductanceLater compilation

Where: Table 2, SUEWS biogenic model parameters, soil depth row, p. 4559

Gives 1000 mm for trees and 349 mm for grass and lawn, credited to Havu et al. (2022a) and Kokkonen et al. (2019). The storage capacity, hydraulic conductivity and density are not published anywhere in the article or its supplement.

Simulating heat and CO2 fluxes in Beijing using SUEWS V2020b: Sensitivity to vegetation phenology and maximum conductanceLater compilation

Where: Sect. 3, Study site and measurements, p. 4554

The model domain is a 1 km circle around the IAP tower, covering roughly 80 % of the accumulated flux footprint; no city-wide domain is modelled.

Assessment findings

Namesupported
Havu et al. derive the distinctive soil depth and storage capacity for their two Viikki street-tree sites, and Zheng's archive labels the complete reused row Viikki, Street trees.
Targetsupported
A SUEWS_Soil row shared by the vegetated surfaces, which is the common target.
Valuessupported
Code 72 of SUEWS_Soil.txt carries SoilDepth 1000, SoilStoreCap 141, SatHydraulicCond 5.00E-04, SoilDensity 1.16 and InfiltrationRate 10, which is the record exactly, and the Beijing Veg rows 991, 992 and 993 all point at it. Havu et al. publish the 1 m street-tree soil depth and state that the exact 0.141 m storage capacity was calculated from laboratory measurements; Zheng Table 2 republishes the 1000 mm tree soil depth. Worth flagging for the maintainer: Table 2 lists 349 mm for grass and lawn, while the released run applies the 1000 mm row to the grass surface as well, so the record follows the archive rather than the table.
Sourcesupported
Parameter-level provenance now assigns the Viikki depth and calculated storage capacity to Havu et al. and the exact hydraulic conductivity and density to the Havu model-input archive. Zheng remains the record-envelope source for the complete Beijing run configuration without being presented as the origin of every soil property.
Placesupported
The original study locates both street-tree sites in Viikki, Helsinki; Beijing is retained as the later application origin on the stable path.
Representativenesssupported
The depth and storage capacity were determined for two constructed street-tree sites in Viikki, so site scale is the supported scope rather than either Helsinki-wide or Beijing city evidence.
Methodsupported
The record-level literature method describes reuse of the published configuration. Parameter overrides preserve Havu's calculated storage capacity and identify the remaining adopted site and archive values as literature configuration inputs.
Identitysupported
Zheng's archive carries the code-72 tuple as Viikki street trees and selects it for Beijing vegetation rows 991-993, while the Havu archive selects its matching code-72 tuple for the distinct Helsinki street-tree rows 832 and 842. The stable paths and legacy IDs retain those separate configuration lineages; keeping both records documents intentional reuse rather than two independent parameter determinations.

Scientific note

The numbers are exactly what the released Beijing run used. Havu et al. publish the 1 m depth and calculated 0.141 m storage capacity for two Viikki street-tree sites, while the independently released Havu input row supplies the exact hydraulic conductivity and density. Parameter-level provenance records those roles without over-attributing the complete row to one source. The exact duplicate remains intentional configuration reuse, not a second parameter determination: the Zheng archive applies code 72 in the Beijing model, while the Havu archive selects the matching code-72 tuple for its distinct Helsinki street-tree surfaces. Retaining both stable records preserves those separate configuration lineages while the related-record link makes their shared tuple explicit. No path, origin, legacy lineage or value is changed.
